Floralism started when I salvaged a waterscape painting that wasn’t working by covering it with flowers. I didn’t hide the seascape instead I used it to form leaves and flowers by painting the negative space. I started looking for other artists who also merge Abstract Expressionism with still life florals. What I found was a diverse and exciting world of magical colors and images. Check out Debra Stewart and Erin Gregory for example.

Erin Gregory

This new direction for me, keeps the subject matter simple and familiar, while letting me be expressive and experimental. Inspired by Debra Stewart’s use of pastel, I started adding this pure pigment media into my Acrylic paintings. This produced an exciting punch of color and texture. This element was added with “Be Kind”, and continued into 2022.
